Although Almeria is becoming more and more popular with tourists, it is still a relatively unspoilt part of Spain.

Alcazaba and Harbour

  • The Alcazaba – The largest castle built by the Moors in Spain overlooks Almeria city.

  • The Cabo de Gata Natural Park – For beauty, secluded beaches, nature and walks.

  • Nijar – Renowned for its ceramics.

  • Sorbas – Known for its caves.

  • Cuevo de los Letreros – Near Velez Rubio, this cave is the home of Spain's most important cave paintings including that of the famous Almeriense symbol, the Indalo Man..

  • Los Millares – A Chalcolithic (Pre-Bronze Age) settlement near Alhama de Almeria which dates from around 2700BC and has more than 100 tombs.

  • Almeria Cathedral

Velez Blanco
  • Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco – Velez Rubio has a museum and a lovely Baroque church. Velez Blanco has an amazing Renaissance Castle built on the remains of the Moorish Alcazaba. The photo on the right shows Velez Blanco's hilltop castle.

  • Oasys – At Tabernas, this park is home to a swimming pool with slide, a zoo and Mini Hollywood with its cowboy stunt shows and film sets.
