If you are having a city break in Madrid before travelling on to the Costa del Sol, or can only get a flight to Madrid, you will want to know how you can travel to the Costa del Sol.

You have three main options:-Ave

  1. Hire a car from Madrid Airport - See the car hire section (3rd page) of our Planning Your Andalucia Holiday for great advice on hiring a car. It will take you about 5 and a half hours to drive from Madrid airport to Malaga.
  2. Use the high speed AVE train from Madrid to Malaga (takes 3 hours) - see http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html to search for tickets and dates. The train costs between €70 and €150 depending on class, date and time. From Malaga bus station, you can get buses to other Costa del Sol towns, see http://www.ctsa-portillo.com/ima/pdf/malaga-estacion.pdf for a timetable or telephone the Malaga bus station 0034 952350061.
  3. Use a bus - Daibus offers bus services from Madrid to various towns on the Costa del Sol, Cordoba province and Cadiz. See http://www.daibus.es/cicero/index.html for routes, times, ticket prices and booking. I clicked on Madrid to Estepona and found that there were 3 buses a day (11.00, 21.00 and 22.00), costing €24.93 and that the journey would take approximately 7.5 hours. Daibus also goes to Malaga, Marbella, Fuengirola and Torremolinos.
